The current ultrabooks are quite similar to each other. But manufacturers are trying to attract the buyers attention this way or another.
The best feature of Lenovo IdeaPad U300s ultrabook is the possibility to charge the battery to 50% in 30 minutes. Also, the battery charges to 95 percent in 66 minutes so actually it is almost fully charged available in an hour. When fully charged, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s ultrabook can run for more than 4 hours on battery.
Other advantages of the IdeaPad U300s ultrabook are its light weight, thickness, fairly fast intel CPU and of course 128 GB SSD. The IdeaPad U300s have a 13.3 inch glossy matrix display at 1366 x 768 pixel resolution.
Listed below are the technical specifications of Lenovo IdeaPad U300s ultrabook:
The Toshiba Satellite P755D is a solid performing multimedia laptop that features a great-looking 15.6-inch widescreen HD display. It has an AMD Fusion A8 CPU, 6GB of RAM and a 640GB hard drive that gives plenty of room for media storage. It also has a Blu-ray disc player, which further lends itself to multimedia use.
Specifications of the Toshiba Satellite P755D include an AMD Fusion A8-3520M (1.6GHz) quad-core CPU, 6GB of RAM, a 640GB 5400RPM hard drive and integrated AMD Radeon HD 6620G graphics.
The AMD Fusion CPU is not as powerful as an Intel Core i5 or i7, but it doesn't fall too far behind. We noticed no slowdowns when watching Blu-ray or online streaming HD media.
The AMD integrated graphics, however, perform comparatively better than Intel's integrated graphics. We were able to play most 3D games with the resolution and/or graphics settings dialed down slightly. So if you want to do some light 3D gaming, you can with this laptop.
The port selection includes one USB 3.0 port, three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI-out, VGA-out, Ethernet, the usual audio ports and a memory card reader. The USB 3.0 port supports Sleep & Charge functionality, which lets you charge a USB device while the computer is asleep or even turned off. The audio ports also let you play music from an MP3 player through the laptop's speakers even when it is off. Aside from all of that, wireless connectivity includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0.
The second-generation Core i5 processor is one of the best laptop processors to ever be available, so it’s little surprise that it is popular. Our Dell Inspiron 14z review unit came equipped with one of the less powerful versions, the Core i5-2410M, but it is still a quick processor. The base clock speed is 2.3 GHz, but Turbo Boost can run as high as 2.9 GHz. This is a quick laptop, and you’ll only significantly outrun it if you’re using a laptop with a Core i7 quad-core. The Dell Inspiron 14z should prove to be a solid, quick laptop that’s more than capable of handling anything besides demanding 3D games. In fact, this is the perfect laptop for anyone who is considering an inexpensive 15.6” laptop, but would like better battery life - without paying much of a price in terms of performance or, well, price. Everywhere you look, the N55’s specification scream performance. A Core i7 quad-core mobile processor is the heart of the machine, and snuggles up with an Nvidia GT 555M graphics processor.
Being a beefy laptop, the N55 has a fair amount of room for cooling, which is likely what it remains quiet at idle. Though some fan noise is audible if you’re trying to hear it, you’ll otherwise not notice it. You’ll also probably miss any excessive heat, because there doesn’t seem to be much of it when the laptop isn’t exercising its hardware. Load up a game, however, and everything changes. Just like a gaming laptop, the N55 becomes a furious box of heat - although unlike a gaming laptop, the fan doesn’t scale up to hair-dryer levels of shriek. Read more »
Today we present to you the first of a two-part series where we can first examine NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580M (both as a single GPU and in SLI) as well as Alienware's M18x proper, with a second part focusing both on the AMD Radeon HD 6990M (again as a single GPU or in CrossFire) and a face-off between these two top-of-the-line mobile graphics solutions.
Starting at the top we have one of the two parts of the review system that you can't get anymore: the Intel Core i7-2920XM. At stock, the i7-2920XM is a quad-core, Hyper-Threaded processor running at 2.5GHz nominal clocks with 8MB of L3 cache and capable of turbo'ing up to 3.5GHz on one core (3.2GHz on all four). Yet when you hit "Level 3" in the BIOS, suddenly it's screaming up to 3.5GHz on all four cores nominally and hitting 4.2GHz on a single, effectively making it faster than Intel's top of the line i7-2600K is at stock...on the desktop.
Backing up the i7-2920XM in our review unit is 16GB of DDR3-1600, spread out across four 4GB SODIMMs, along with Intel's HM67 mobile chipset. Alienware also inexplicably includes two 750GB 7200-RPM Seagate Momentus hard drives. Read more »
What we have here is a sleek 13.4” ultraportable, yet thanks to the relatively mundane hardware. That’s not a large chunk of change, and it means that this laptop could be a great choice - if the hardware is up to par. Along the slim sides you’ll find plenty of connectivity. On the right there are two USB ports, separate headphone and microphone jacks, and the power connector. To the left there’s an HDMI port, Ethernet jack and VGA out. The MSI X370 surprises by delivering a visual experience that’s instantly recognizable as superior to most laptops. Examining the panel with the LCD Lagom test images confirmed these first impressions. Black level performance is excellent, as the panel is able to display all blocks on the test page. Solid results were also apparent in gradient tests, as the sample image was smooth, with no banding even in the darkest corners. Read more »
The MSI X460 DX starts at just under $800, with our test unit ringing up at $850. For that tally, the specifications list is pretty darn impressive. We're guessing that there's not enough horsepower here for this to be a true gamer's machine, but it's leaps and bounds better than what $850 would buy you at this point last year. In fact, it just might be the back-to-school machine you've been waiting for. Thin, light, powerful, and an impressive claimed battery life. Sure looks good on paper, but does it have enough oomph to stand out in our real world tests? Let's find out in the pages to come. Read more »
Today we are going to take a look at the Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop, which has a 15.6” screen, can come with the Intel Pentium P6100 (2.0 GHz) or P6200 (2.13 GHz) CPU, 2 GB to 4 GB of RAM, and a hard drive from 250 GB to 640 GB.
Another point we need to discuss is the Pentium P6200 CPU. Former Pentium models (T4000 series) were based on the Core 2 Duo processor. However, the P6000 series is based on the Core i3 CPU (Arrandale core). The difference between Pentium P6000 models and Core i3 models is the absence of the Hyper-Threading technology (which simulates two logical processing cores for each physical one on the chip), the Virtualization Technology (VT-x), and the SSE4 instruction set.
The Aspire 5742Z has a fairly uncommon feature in laptops: A complete keyboard, which means it has the separated numeric keyboard. In addition, the keys are big and well-spaced, and the typing is accurate and comfortable. Read more...
Called the X1, this ThinkPad immediately positions itself as a flagship product. The hardware inside the X1 isn’t much different from what you’ll find in other laptops powered by second-gen Core i5 processors, but the hardware is impressive considering the size of the chassis. The X1 is just .84 inches at its thickest point, which means it’s about .3 to .5 inches thinner than your typical ultraportable laptop. Read more...
HP's new EliteBook line looks much like models in the older EliteBook line, such as the EliteBook 8440w we reviewed 15 months ago. Yes, the external skin offers a more pleasing brushed aluminum aesthetic, but it's still a little clunky looking. You could call it the gray flannel suit of laptop computing.
The latest EliteBook 8460p is the smallest model in the EliteBook lineup, with a 14-inch screen and a weight of about 5.5 pounds. The new model is equipped with one of the latest-generation Intel Core CPUs. Our review unit carried a 2.5GHz Core i5 2520M with a maximum turbo boost speed of 3.2GHz. HP's configuration also included 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition, and a Radeon HD 6470M mobile GPU.
The Radeon HD 6470M is fully DirectX 11-compliant, but it's unlikely to give you much of a performance boost in current-generation DX11 games: Its 3DMark 2011 performance score is a modest 598. T play hardcore games, you'll have to dial down the resolution and detail settings substantially. Read more...
The 2011 Edition Apple MacBook Pro's are some seriously beautiful pieces of technology. Thin, unbelievably fast, amazing screen and finally, not so expensive. Spec-wise, Apple throw some decent tech into their 17 inch MacBook Pro.
The 17 inch model contains; an Intel Core i7 2.2GHz processor (6MB shared L3 cache), 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory (upgradeable to 8GB), 750GB 5400-rpm SATA HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6750M GPU with 1GB GDDR5 memory, Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 shared with main memory, and a 17 inch LED backlit glossy widescreen display with a resolution of 1920x1200. The newest representative of the T-series, T420, is the one that we’ve received for testing, and its intention was to convince us that it’s worthy of replacing one of the company’s best-selling models, T410. As far as naming goes, T420 tells us everything about it - the series in question, its display size, as well as the type of CPU in question.
The fantastic display with a resolution of 1600x900 (the perfect one for this display size, in our opinion) contributes to this feeling. This display diagonal is perfect for portable workstations, and combined with the aforementioned resolution, it enables a wide array of usage scenarios and great comfort in work. As usual, Lenovo hasn’t disappointed us with the display in any regard, since it has an anti-reflective coating, which makes it ideal for outside use under direct sunlight, where most display fail and become practically unusable. The HP Pavilion DV6 series of notebooks have always been the go to notebook for many people who want performance close to a desktop, but don’t want to splurge out an obscene amount of money for it. Today I’ll be looking at the latest HP Pavilion DV6 notebook that promises performance on par with mid-level desktops, without hurting the wallet. Read more...
We've been hearing about the AMD Fusion APU for years now, so when we got the opportunity to do a review on a Sony VAIO laptop with the dual-core E-350 APU we jumped at the chance to see what it can do. The notebook we received for testing was the Sony VAIO Y series notebook, which is a very small 11.6" ultra portable notebook.
The Sony VAIO Y series laptop measures in at 11.42" (W) x 0.99"-1.25" (H) x 7.99" (D) with a weight of just 3.23 lbs. This type of a notebook is a travelers dream as it is compact and light. Sony offers the VAIO Y series in two colors; pink and silver. As you can see from the images on this page we were sent the silver model and that is fine by us! Read more...
Our 5742G review unit was built around an Intel Core i5-460M processor, with 3MB of cache and each of its dual cores running at 2.53GHz, and included Nvidia GeForce GT 420M graphics with 1GB of memory. The combination produced zippy performance, especially with our graphics programs.
The 5742G has a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1,366 by 768 pixels -- enough for 720p (though not 1080p) HD content. That extra half-inch of diagonal width may not seem like much but, coupled with the display's wide 16:9 aspect ratio, it gives the screen a more spacious feel than you'd find in a typical 15-inch notebook. That's even more evident when viewing DVDs on the unit. Read more... Acer AS5742-7120 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)Laptop Computers) Price $547.99

Laptop computers started outselling desktops around the middle of 2005, and while tablet computers are now the fastest-growing hardware segment, there are times when only a real keyboard will do. The average laptop (not netbook) computer sells for well under $1,000.00, and companies like Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and others offer dozens of models to choose from in this price range. The Acer Iconia 6120, at $1,200.00, is significantly more expensive than most while coming in under machines like Apple's Macbook Pro line or the higher end of HP's Envy series. This price gets you a well-equipped machine with two 14" displays, one where a keyboard and trackpad would be on a "normal" computer. Read more...
Today, we're taking a look at a member of that new breed of laptops, the Asus K53E, which plays host to the i5-2520M as well as a 15.6" LCD panel and a run-of-the-mill six-cell battery. By running the K53E through our mobile test suite, we'll get a feel for the kind of performance and unplugged run time you can expect from an everyday Sandy Bridge laptop—the kind you might find at Best Buy for well under $700.
We'll also get a sense of the Asus K53E, which, unlike the 17" Compal review unit we studied in January, is an honest-to-goodness retail system (though the exact configuration we'll be testing doesn't appear to be available for sale right now). K53E models with slower Sandy Bridge CPUs and less exotic specifications can be nabbed for as little as $704.59 at Compuvest right now. If the system's battery life, performance, and build quality are what they should be, the K53E could be a sweet deal. Read more...
The GX660R is available in various flavours, including Core-i7 based builds and comes with the same high-end Dynaudio speakers that were used in the GT660 with the graphics also receiving an upgrade to AMD's DX11 enabled Mobility 5870... The 15.6” Full HD screen of the GX660 delivers more details of the high definition content; brings you more pleasure while playing games or watching movies. HDMI output not only delivers super-fast 5GB per second data rates, but it also reduces cable clutter while ensuring the best possible video quality. By taking advantage of HDMI, the GX660 can render game scenes with spectacular clarity and realism, making it a great choice for the next generation of both PC and online games. That "R" in the model name, that's for RAID.
In theory that all sounds like a system with a high end price tag but MSI have decent spec builds starting at a little under $1500 which seems too good to be true. Read more...
Asus G51J Core i7-720QM GTX 260M is an incredible fast all-round purpose laptop. Yes it will allow you to play new high end games. Bad Company 2 was playable after we tweaked some game detail settings. The choice of the 15.6” monitor might have been a wise decision after all. With a 17 or 19 inch monitor I really don't think this setup would warrant fluid gameplay.
The price for this laptop bundled with the 3D kit is $1,550. At first glance this might seem high, but looking in the price charts it seems justified for the listed specifications. Again kuddos to Asus for daring to bundle all this hardware into a neat looking laptop. Read more...
ASUS W90Vp-A1 is equipped with Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000/Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor, Intel Express X38 based motherboard, dual ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 graphic cards running in CrossFire mode, 6GB of DDR2-800 memory, 5.1 Dolby-certified speakers, and finally, one of the most gorgeous laptop displays we’ve ever seen, an 18.4” 1920x1080 display backed by ASUS’ Zero Bright dot display policy which guarantees that the display will ship free of dead pixels or ASUS will replace it free of charge within 30 days of purchase.
Packing 800 stream processors and 512MB of DDR3 VRAM, the Mobility Radeon 4870 is just about as good as it gets right now when it comes to mobile graphics. Equipping the notebook with two of these GPUs is simply an extraordinary amount of graphics horsepower for a notebook PC – most desktop gaming rigs don’t have this kind of power on tap. Read more...
