Netbooks sales are dwindling, and it's easy to see why. While consumers remain keenly interested in ultraportable computers, they clearly prefer tablets to tiny Windows PCs. Let's take a closer look at the Transformer Pad 300 to see how it stacks up. At 9.9 mm thick, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 is a little fatter than the 8.3-mm Prime. The docks are actually comparable in thickness. The Transformer's DRAM memory still weighs in at 1GB, but it's DDR3 instead of DDR2.
The Asus' Transformer Pad 300 tablet screen is pretty good. Our colorimeter tells us the backlight offers 324 cd/m² of brightness at its maximum setting. The IPS panel serves up 1280x800 pixels.
With the dock attached, the Transformer very much resembles an ultraportable notebook. The weight balance is a little different, though. On a notebook, the screen is usually much lighter than the base because it's just an LCD. The Transformer's screen is the entire tablet—battery and all—and it weighs 16% more than the dock. Put the two together, and the combo is decidedly back-heavy when open.

The Eee Pad Transformer is slimmer than the Xoom and A500, but its beveled edge makes the comparison difficult. Asus tapers the Transformer near the sides, where it’s slightly thinner at 0.35". Functionally, this doesn't really matter because you still need a cover that accommodates the tablet at its thickest point, which is 0.5". And at 1.5 pounds, Asus' tablet weighs roughly the same as Motorola's Xoom.
As always, Asus demonstrates innovative thinking with the Eee Pad Transformer, and its docking station is really what makes this device such a differentiated piece of hardware. We like that. Read more »

The world is finally getting its taste of the very first webOS 3.0 tablet in the HP TouchPad – but more importantly, some are curious to know how it stands against some of the titans in the market. Carrying along a 6,300 mAh battery inside, its battery life is definitely up there with the crop. With normal everyday operation, which consists mostly of web browsing, it’s able to give us easily a solid one day’s worth of usage – with 20% left at the end of the day. Moreover, it’s able to play a movie continuously for 8.5 hours while setting its brightness to the middle setting, volume at its loudest, and connected to a Wi-Fi network. In any event, its battery life is indeed really good. Read more...

It looks like Samsung was finally able to make all preparation for seriously taking the tablet market by storm, having officially launched the Galaxy Tab 10.1, loaded with the most recent version of Android.
the 10.1-inch LCD touchscreen has a native resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, while the NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC provides the majority of all performance resources.
Samsung also threw in a 7,000 mAh battery (up to 9 hours of life) and a variety of connectivity and I/O capabilities (a 3 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera, WiFi, etc.), all in an 8.6 mm frame.
What's more, as consumers probably know or can guess, the feature set of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 includes Adobe Flahs support.
Finally, the Android 3.1 operating system from Google is loaded onto the device, for quick application transition and intuitive navigation. Read more...

The 10.1in display uses the now-standard resolution of 1280x800, and although it can't quite match the crystal clarity and wide viewing angles of the IPS screens of the iPad 2 and Eee Pad Transformer, its brightness, colour contrast and sharpness are impressive.
The tablet is powered by a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor backed by 1GB RAM. The A500 also uses an ultra-low power Nvidia GeForce GPU with Flash 10.1 support. As a result, apps and the Web fire up quickly and the touchscreen is very responsive.
Although the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the weightiest tablets on the market - and comes with a heftier price tag than the iPad 2 - it has a powerful processor, fast performance, bright and clear screen and user-friendly app management.
