OCZ have changed their SSD casing for this revision of the drive and now use a plastic top section with a sticker which gives the model name. Turning the unit over we find a brushed metal base which extends onto the sides of the drive. In the centre is a sticker, next to the SATA 6GB/s connector, which on this model tells us that it is a Max IOPS edition, also listing drive capacity and a note that the warranty is void if opened.

Elsewhere things have changed since the original Vertex 3 though. On the original model we had eight 25nm Micron MLC NAND flash chips on the top surface, eight underneath which gave the drive a formatted capacity of 223GB in Windows 7. On this edition of the drive we have 32nm Toshiba TH58TAG7D2FBAS9 NAND with 16GB used for overprovisioning, giving the user a formatted capacity of 223GB in Windows 7. Read more...
