ASRock M3A790GXH/128M Socket AM2+/ 790GX/ 3-Way CrossFireX/ A&V&GbE/ ATX MotherboardToday we are going to take a look at the new AM3 motherboard from ASRock, the M3A790GXH/128M. ASRock has positioned ASRock M3A790GXH/128M at the cheap end of the mainstream motherboards, coming in with a light price tag of $113.99 which makes it one of the cheapest ATX 790GX motherboards on the market. ASRock AM3790GXH/128M motherboard supports socket AM3 processors and it supports AMD OverDrive™ with ACC feature (Advanced Clock Calibration). This motherboard have triple PCI-E 16x slots, AMD 790GX northbridge, AMD SB750 southbridge, and it has all solid capacitors. You can install up to 16GB of DDR3 memory operating at 1600MHz.
ASRock AM3790GXH/128M have some unique features like ASRock OC Tuner, Intelligent Energy Saver, Instant Boot Boot Failure Guard and Hybrid booster. ASRock's quality continues to improve as well as feature set. You can purchase Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz Processor ($109.99 only!) and put it in Asrock's M3A790GXH/128M motherboard and unlock two additional (locked) cores, resulting in fully operational 4 core CPU at bargain price! To be able to unlock Phenom II X2s four cores, hit F2 at startup, enter BIOS, set Advanced Clock Calibration to Auto, and restart your machine. You will be surprised (as I was) when CPU-Z reported all four of the Phenom II X2 processor cores fully functional. Also, I run some tests with Advanced Clock Calibration set to Disabled (thus running Phenom II X2 550 black edition CPU with 2 cores enabled by default) and then I run the same tests with Advanced Clock Calibration set to Auto (resulting in all four cores up and running) and results showed a dramatic improved performance by up to 80% which means that all four cores were unlocked successfully. So long as motherboard vendors aren’t forced to lock the Phenom II X2s out, we’ll likely see scattered reports of folks experiencing some success unlocking their processors. Overall I recommend the ASRock AM3790GXH/128M as a great Socket AM3 motherboard and the path to go if you're building a new system.
