My friend has Deep Freeze version 7 installed on his home PC. When he powered on the computer earlier today, he needed to unfreeze his machine, but he noticed that Deep Freeze icon is missing from the notification area. He was worried that he will need to reinstall Windows, because no icon means you can't unfreeze or even uninstall DeepFreeze.

He ask me for help so I searched the Internet and found that the only way to fix the problem with missing Deep Freeze icon in Windows 7 notification area is indeed to reinstall Windows. No way. I think that there should be a better solution than that. Fortunately, there's an easy fix for this problem. I told him to first reboot his PC and hit the F8 key in order to get into the Windows startup menu. I had him try to boot from the last known good configuration. Words cannot describe how happy he was, because he solved the strange problem with Deep Freeze disappearing from the Windows 7 notification area.

ASUS Radeon HD 5770 EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5/V2 Video CardMore and more vendors these days allow the end user to play around with GPU voltages in order to achieve higher stable overclocks. Our sample for example ships at reference (standard) 850MHz core clock frequency and 4,800MHz on the memory much like as any other Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB, but with the help of Voltage Tweaking we achieved 1,000MHz on the core clock and 5,620MHz on the memory fairly quickly. So in this review a little recap on the Radeon HD 5770 1024MB and then of course coverage of the overclock throughout our benchmark session with the help of some extra juice. Read more...

I you have a large gap of white space, or black and white stripes between the list of programs in the add/remove programs, there is a simple solution to fix this problem. Usually this problem is caused by some cached data on installed programs that has become incorrect, so you will need to delete the ARPCache registry directory.

Open 'Regedit' and delete the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache' key.

Hopefully, the problem will be solved.

IPV6 slows down the IPV4 environment if the router out the door does not understand IPV6 and for most people IPV6 is not needed.
To disable the IPV6 protocol, you will need to execute the following command line command:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/bad_list

After that paste "alias net-pf-10 off" into the file, then add one new line and save and exit the file.

If you have ever wondered why your hard drive makes so much noise when idle, this is due to your files being indexed in order to help your CPU find these files easier. However, even the most insignificant files are indexed. This service puts a huge strain on your hard drive which ironically makes things easier for Windows. Because of this conundrum, most techs have deemed this Indexing Service insignificant and the cause of slow computer hard drive access. You can turn off service with the following steps:
  • Double-click My Computer, and right click on the hard drive icon.
  • Select properties.
  • Uncheck 'Allow Indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching'.

If you own DDR2 memory operating at 667 MHz with cas latencies 5-5-5-15 you should see an improvement if you set the operating frequency to 533 MHz and latencies to 4-4-4-12. Before you do that you should check if your memory support this speed and latencies. You can do that using 'Everest'. Everest is free diagnostics and benchmarking program running on Win32 platforms. In the page menu, click 'motherboard', then 'SPD' to get memory speed. Write it down on a peace of paper. It's a good idea to benchmark your memory with your original settings. To do that, you will need to click on the 'Benchmark' and click on the 'Memory read' and after that you will need to click on the 'Refresh Page' button, then 'Memory write', 'Memory copy' and 'Memory latency' respectively. Write down the results. Now restart you computer. Enter the BIOS and change your memory settings to 533 MHz and latencies to 4-4-4-12 :

tCL Cas Latency - 4
tRCD - 4
tRP - 4
tRAS - 12

Test your new memory settings with Everest and see significant speed improvements.
Also, you could try to change the latencies to 4-4-4-12 only, and set the operating frequency to 667 MHz. You should try this settings only if you have some better memory or if possible, try increasing the memory voltage to 1.9V-2.1V .
