ADATA Technology, a leading manufacturer of high-performance DRAM modules and NAND Flash application products, announced the release of the S510 Solid State Drive (SSD), a mid-range version of the company’s flagship S511. Implementing the SATA III (6Gb/sec) specification, the S510 is aimed at the growing pool of users who recognize the cost and performance advantages of solid state drive upgrades for both desktop and portable computers.
The performance advantages of the SATA III transfer specification are becoming well-known among consumers, and the S510 capitalizes on this trend with native support through adoption of the SandForce SF-2200 series chip. Its read and write speeds are twice that of SSDs using the older SATA II specification, and in real world test simulations reached 550/510MB read and write speeds respectively, with 4K random write speeds as high as 85,000 IOPS. MSI X58 PRO - Motherboard - ATX - iX58 - LGA1366 Socket - UDMA133 Serial ATA-30
Micro-Star International Co. Ltd. announced the most affordable Core i7 solution on the market. Based on the Intel X58 chipset with a ICH10R southbridge, this board supports the full i7 range of processors, with ultra-high QPI bandwidth and six DDR3 DIMM slots. The MSI X58 Pro comes complete with three dual-slot PCI Express x16 slots that offer support for both ATI's triple CrossFireX and Nvidia's Tri-SLI. It comes complete with MSI's DrMOS power-saving technology, which has been proven to reduce the power draw under low usage conditions, whilst being able to provide full power the instant the system requires it. To help provide efficient cooling, the heatpipe of MSI X58 Pro comes with a split thermal system. This helps to prevent the transfer of heat from the chipset to the PWM. Due to its unique power efficiency, the MSI DrMOS system keeps the PWM cool by itself, helping the overclocker to achieve higher results. The X58 Pro also comes with MSI's unique M-Flash, which allows you to boot a second BIOS from a USB stick should it be necessary.

Samsung SpinPoint EcoGreen HD502HI Hard Drive - 500GB - 5400rpm - Serial ATA/300 - Serial ATA - Internal
Samsung has developed a 1.5 TB three platter hard disk drive (500 GB per platter) which consumes 40% less power at idle, and 45% less power when reading/writing than other comparable drives. Dubbed F2EG EcoGreen, the drive is comparably priced to high-power consuming drives.
As hard disk capacity increases from an increased number of disks, so does power consumption. However, Samsung’s F2EG drive offers low power consumption by using EcoTriangle™, a low-power, low-heat, low-noise operation technology. With its advanced design and fewer components, the F2EG drive is 40% lower in power consumption in idle mode and 45% lower in reading/writing mode than competitive drives. Samsung’s Eco-Triangle™ technology offers more energy efficient and high performance hard drive options to manufacturers of home media PC, external HDD, set-top box, and personal NAS.
Samsung's EcoGreen F2EG drive, which is suitable for both external hard disks and desktop PC, incorporates 500GB/1TB/1.5TB capacity, 16MB/32MB buffer memory, and 3.0 gigabytes per second (Gbps) Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) interface. The F2EG hard drive, employing advanced PMR technology, achieves greater aerial density and improves transfer performance as well. The F2EG family of drives is currently being shipped to major OEM businesses.

New Intel® High-Performance SATA Solid-State Drive Offers Users Responsive, Rugged, Reliable and Low-Power Storage Solution to Replace Hard Disk Drive. Intel Corporation has begun shipping Intel® X18-M and X25-M Mainstream SATA Solid-State Drives (SSDs) based on multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash technology for laptop and desktop computers. The new high-performing data storage devices give computer buyers a new level of system responsiveness in a lightweight, rugged, low-power package that can replace traditional hard disk drives.

Validated for Intel-based computers, the X18-M is a 1.8-inch drive and the X25-M a 2.5-inch drive, offering several advantages over hard drives including faster overall system response, boot and resume times. With no moving parts, SSDs run cooler and quieter and are a more reliable option than hard drives. In addition, SSDs remove input/output (I/O) performance bottlenecks associated with hard disk drives that help maximize the efficiency of Intel processors, such as the company’s Core™ family of products. For example, lab tests show that the Intel X18-M and X25M increase storage system performance nine times over traditional hard disk drive performance.

The Intel X18-M and X25-M Mainstream SATA SSDs are available in 80 gigabyte (GB) capacities, with 160GB versions sampling in the fourth quarter of this year. The 80GB drive achieves up to 250MB per second read speeds, up to 70MB per second write speeds and 85-microsecond read latency for fast performance.

Since SSDs lower energy consumption, maintenance, cooling and space costs, an SSD-based data center will reduce overall infrastructure costs while increasing performance-per-square-foot by as much as 50x.

ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI Desktop Board - nVIDIA GeForce 8200 - HyperTransport Technology - Socket AM2+ - 2600MHz HT - 8GB - DDR2 SDRAM - DDR2-1066/PC2-8500, DDR2-800
Overall we can see why Nvidia didn't have a huge launch for the GeForce 8200 chipset as faced with competition from the 780G the AMD chipset at least in regards to graphics performance looks much better. In their Southbridge they are fairly even as AMD released at last their SB700 chipset though Nvidia does come out on top here with the GeForce 8200. We also note a few lack of overclocking features in Asus' BIOS which usually they are excellent at providing and also performers overall.
We'd lay this more though on the GeForce 8200 and likely more resources were spent towards AMD's integrated chipset. That said the 780G and GeForce 8200 are a little old now and GeForce 8300 products are now about to hit the market and AMD's new 790GX both on the horizon we'll take another look at those with our newer integrated graphics tests and also take a close look at H.264 decoding abilities of both chipsets. If you're looking though for a HTPC or IGP motherboard the GeForce 8200 definitely isn't bad it's just facing some steep competition from the 780G. Read more...

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
It is rumored that the Core 2 Duo E8600 will come out on August 10 with a $266 price tag. The CPU will run at 3.33GHz, or about 170MHz faster than the Core 2 Duo E8500 Intel recently pulled down from $266 to $183.
This may be the last high-end Core 2 Duo, and recently leaked roadmaps would seem to corroborate that claim. Supposedly, Intel will replace the E8600 and other current-gen chips in the same price range with dual- and quad-core Nehalem derivatives in the third quarter of 2009.
With 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo processors, you''ll experience revolutionary performance, unbelievable system responsiveness, and energy-efficiency second to none. And, you won''t have to slow down for virus scan, multiple compute intensive programs, or home video editing these desktop processors include Intel HD Boost and are up to 70 percent faster when processing high-definition memories with your HD video camera.
